If your child is suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder, a semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction and play is conducted using the “Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition” (ADOS-2) and other measures. Your child’s communication skills, problem-solving, play skills, social skills, motor skills, and daily living skills will be assessed to determine if your child meets the criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder – Fifth Edition (DSM-5).

You will receive information about your child’s strengths and weaknesses, sensory profile and individualized treatment recommendations. This information will aid in the development of a treatment plan to best meet the needs of your child. Each family will be assigned a care coordinator at no cost that will provide advice, support and aid in navigating public and private services. You will not be in this alone as 1to1 provides a network of therapists and connects families with available resources.

What is a Psychologist?

  • A regulated professional that is a registered Psychologist and a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
  • In Ontario, only Psychologists and Medical Doctors have the legal authority to communicate a diagnosis.
  • Psychologists assess, diagnosis and treat behavioural and mental health conditions.

Why is a Psychologist an important member of your child’s team?

1to1 Psychologists provide diagnostic assessments in order to identify and communicate a client’s strengths and needs to the family and therapy team. A diagnosis may result from the assessment. The assessment begins with a consultation session and a feedback session is provided to communicate the results. The Psychologist informs a comprehensive treatment plan for the client. The Psychologist is in communication with the professionals involved in a client’s care including time dedicated for direct supervision.
